11月27日，学习资源中心邀请了哈佛大学近东语言与文明系的张湛博士，带来“古代丝绸之路上的贸易与文化交流”讲座。在张湛博士的带领下，师生们走过丝绸之路的历史，探寻欧亚大陆之间的文明与交流。

在讲座中，张湛博士基于当代对丝绸之路的研究，结合出土文献，阐述汉唐“丝绸之路”的概念和范围，向师生们介绍丝绸之路的走向、丝绸之路与丝、丝绸之路与贸易等相关知识。同时，张湛博士跳出传统“丝绸之路”所涵盖的历史和时间范畴，结合技术、艺术、文化、思想等多方面的内容，讲述欧亚大陆交流的多样性。

讲座吸引了众多师生前来，精彩的讲座结束之后，不少师生表示受益匪浅。张湛博士还对师生们的提问进行了详尽的解答，为活动画上了圆满的句号。

On November 27th 2018, the Learning Resource Centre invited Dr. Zhan Zhang to bring us a lecture on “Trade and Cultural Exchange on the Ancient Silk Road". Dr. Zhang led the audience to explore the exchanges and development between the Eurasian civilizations through the Silk Road and demonstrated the period’s grand weaving of cultures through multiple dimensions: including the spread of religion, the fusion of artistic styles, and the historical figures who lived during this exciting period.

Speaker Biography:
In 2016, Dr. Zhan Zhang attained his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilization from Harvard University, with a focus on the translation of Khotanese (an ancient eastern-Iranian language) documents dating to the Tang Dynasty and excavated from Hetian Region in Xinjiang Province of China. His studies have brought him to various countries along the silk road, including a 10 month stay in Iran. More recently he has translated the 2015 book The Silk Road: A New History by Yale University’s Dr. Valeria Hansen. Dr. Zhang is also the founder and host of a Chinese podcast Tianshu, which covers a variety of topics in humanities.
